    Project AWARE Cleanup

Project AWARE Cleanup Gained Support from 100 Countries
Worldwide Cleanup Effort Shows Strong Results for global shoreline and underwater debris removal.

Project AWARE’s International Cleanup Day, in partnership with dive and resort operators around the world, drew support from volunteers in an unprecedented 1100 cleanup locations this September.

An estimated 350,000 water-loving participants scoured shoreline and underwater environments in more than 100 countries and territories around the world. From Egypt to Ecuador, Australia to Canada and everywhere in between, volunteers removed harmful debris and collected data to help curtail pollution problems.

Data from global events is currently being tabulated in cooperation with The Ocean Conservancy but numbers are expected to exceed seven million pounds of trash and recyclables.

Project AWARE thanks all of the dedicated volunteers who have helped make waterways and underwater environments cleaner and safer while collecting critical data for the cause. You are an inspiration and truly the reason behind the cleanup success.

“Divers and volunteers really are making a difference,” says Jenny Miller Garmendia, Director, Project AWARE Foundation. “It was awe-inspiring to see the level of diver and community involvement on International Cleanup Day. I was proud to be amongst the dedicated volunteers.”
